Upcoming Meditation Workshop With Emma!

HI EVERYONE! So great to see you here. I’m here to tell you all about the meditation workshop coming up on February 7th at Solcana at 2:00pm, hosted by yours truly.

Meditation is spreading like wildfire and there are SO MANY REASONS for that! It’s incredible and has been the reason for beautiful shifts in many people’s lives. It’s something I’m falling hard and fast for and have even developed a meditation practice all my own over the past several years. Meditating has helped me on many levels to address the stressors in my life and learn to better manage the things that are within (or outside of) my control. It’s brought more spontaneity into my life and helped me to be a more mindful athlete, helping me prevent injury and honor my strengths and weaknesses with compassion.

If you’ve been interested in trying meditation and don’t know where to start, or if you’ve been meditating for the past several decades, or if you fall anywhere along that spectrum, come out for the workshop and we’ll all get our zen on together! We’ll start with a discussion about meditation – what it is, what it isn’t, the MANY benefits (including some really recent, amazing research on how it impacts the brain) and then we’ll meditate together. The meditation itself will be about 20 minutes and I would HIGHLY encourage you to bring any or all of the following materials to ensure your comfort:

  • Pillow/cushion to sit on
  • Blanket to stay warm
  • A mat of some kind (yoga mats work) if you prefer to lie down during the meditation
  • Whatever else you need to be comfortable!

There are various genres of meditation and the variety I will be focusing on is mindfulness meditation. While taking the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program at the University of Minnesota, I learned that mindfulness simply means paying attention, on purpose, moment-to-moment, without judgment. While it may seem simple, keeping our attention focused on any one thing can be a challenge, especially without attaching judgment. By practicing mindfulness we are flexing the muscles that build nonjudgmental attention to the present moment, supporting growth in many areas throughout our lives.
