At Solcana, we have a stated mission goal to provide exercise opportunities that meet people where they are. We actively seek out coach training to effectively offer a wide variety of options and advice to different ability levels, body types, brain types and needs for adaptation. In addition, we offer specialized affinity classes that give athletes a chance to connect with each other and receive coaching specifically focused on their needs.
Big Body Fitness (BBF) is an affinity class for fat bodied people. The fat community and fat body affinity groups help to counteract and heal from our fat phobic and fat shaming society. Also, coaching for fat bodies is different from coaching for straight size bodies. Coaching and cueing specifically for fat bodies make exercises safe and effective for fat bodied people, and is not readily available everywhere. Cues that might be right for straight size bodies may not always be the right cues for fat bodies, and BBF is a place where athletes can trust that their coaches are coaching directly to their needs first.

Big Body Fitness (BBF) is an affinity group fitness class designed explicitly for fat-bodied people at all athletic levels.
Programming at BBF features exercises designed to meet the needs of fat people, that range from functional fitness to strength training. This affinity class is not only about fitness, it’s about building a community where fat people can meet in a safe space and move their bodies in a way that feels good to them. Not only are we strengthening our bodies, but we’re strengthening our minds and healing from the trauma fat people face regularly.
BBF has limited capacity, so please respect this space and join only if you are currently living in a fat body (size 16 and above). We welcome small fat, mid-fat, large fat, and infini fat. Check out this LINK to learn more about fategories.

BBF: Same Time, New Place!
BBF has gained momentum and has seen a rise in consistent attendance over the past few months. We expect this trend to continue and so we are moving Tuesday and Thursday BBF into the front Solcana Room and increasing capacity to 15. To accommodate this change, we will move Tuesday and Thursday 5:30 PM Group Fitness into the Vulcana Room. We look forward to offering BBF to more people and giving it more space.
